Mad Science Day 2020. We have been having great fun during British Science Week, and the children announce that today has been the best and most brilliant day. We have been a class of Mad Scientists today - Scientists on the run, Scientists, sharing knowledge, Scientists planning crazy colourful experiments, Scientists creating the Northern Lights and Scientists, of course, having great fun!
World Book Day 2020. St Joseph Class love to read and we have been enjoying today, making bookmarks, enjoying a Scavenger Hunt in our School library and sharing our favourite books before having a relaxing read session, cosy under blankets with soft pillows and teddy bears to join us.
Southend Makes Music. Stomp Club (18 of our class) took part in this wonderful event at the Palace Theatre last night. They had been planning and rehearsing hard to present their musical talents to a large audience of parents, families and friends. They performed with such enthusiasm and skill with great rhythm and musicality too. It was lovely to see how proud they were of themselves and each other. We start preparing for our next performance very soon.
RSPB National Birdwatching Survey 2020. On Wednesday, St Joseph Class took part in this annual survey at Shoebury Park. We used observation sheets to record which birds we spotted. We were also listening to the variety of sounds made by different birds. We visited a range of habitats at the park to collect our data and have already created a tally chart in Maths to show our results, which has been sent to the RSPB for national tracking. Some of us have used our computing skills to create pictures and we are also writing reports of the event. We were really interested to also find out a little of the history of the park and want to research more about the River Shoe. Was it running through Shoebury at the time of the Anglo-Saxons? We are hoping to revisit these habitats later in the year to collect more data and compare the wildlife in different seasons.
Merry Christmas from St Joseph Class
Today, we have welcomed all of the classes and staff to the St Joseph Class Invaders Exhibition, a chance to share our amazing Creative Homework. We had lots of Viking warriors interested in travel to Britain, costume, clothing and helmets, plus newspaper reports of invasions and there was also much interest about Gods and Goddesses from far away. It has been wonderful to see the children from Year R right up to Year 6 show enthusiasm and interest in all of our hard work on the topic this term.
On Thursday 28th November 2019, St Joseph Class presented our Advent Assembly to our School and our parents. We are so proud of all our hard work, planning and preparation. We spoke about how we prepare for Christmas, how Christmas is celebrated around the world, peace and how to spread kindness. We made a wreath for the Advent candles on which we wrote our hopes for the future.
Curling. Some real talent in our class, great sportsmanship too. A big Congratulations to Harry L who showed great promise as a Champion of the future with his fantastic accuracy in hitting the target. We have awarded Harry the Performer of the Week for this week.
Making Music! Our Science topic is Sound this half term. In groups, we worked together using a range of percussion instruments to compose rhythmic tunes.
Our Trip to Southend Museum - A great day of fun and learning to be Anglo-Saxon Warriors.
It's Anti-Bullying Week, today is Odd Socks Day. We have a very bright and colourful collection in our class today!
St Joseph's Class remembers the fallen with respect and gratitude.
Week beginning 7th October 2019 - Wow! What a busy week we have had in St Joseph Class. We have been active - we had fun learning the sport of Boccia, we needed lots of focus and accuracy to play this game. We have been Scientists - making observations for our Teeth experiment - it's getting rather smelly! We have been looking after ourselves and each other - on Thursday it was World Mental Health Day. We took part in a live lesson and also creating some wonderful artwork, which started as one small dot. We have been inspired by the story 'The Dot' and have used the phrase "I can't do it .... yet"
Week beginning 23rd September 2019 - We are a class of Magnificent Musicians! We have only just started violin lessons, but can already play the four strings using the bow to accompany a piece of music. We listen to a piece of classical music in each lesson and share our opinions
Week beginning 16th September 2019 - We have been using our outdoor environment and playground markings to do circuits and keep healthy. Lots of fun was had by all in efforts to improve our stamina and general fitness.
Our School Year has begun with some fun teambuilding activities. We focused on great communication, focus and accuracy. These photos show fine examples of all of these qualities.
Welcome to St Joseph's Class - the Class of 2019-2020
