Prayer and Liturgy

Prayer

“Let us pray for peace: peace in the world and in each of our hearts.” Pope Francis

At St. George’s, Prayer is an integral part of our day. We pray a minimum of 4 times a day with a focus on prayer at the beginning and end of our RE lessons. We also come together as a school and pray for those within our school community during assemblies throughout the week.

Inclusion also plays a large part in making our school community. Therefore, the children and staff of St George’s have learnt ‘Our Father’ in Makaton, ensuring that all children can access and pray together.

We pray the rosary together as a school during the months of October and May. This year we were lucky enough to be given rosaries for each child, which allowed us to fully participate in the session.

“Let us learn from Christ how to pray, to forgive, to sow peace, and to be near those in need.” Pope Francis

Liturgy

At St. George’s we enjoy coming together as a school community to celebrate mass or liturgy. Our main celebrations are:

  • Start of the school year
  • All Saints Day
  • End of Advent term
  • Ash Wednesday
  • End of Easter Term
  • Reconciliation services during Lent and Easter
  • St. George’s Day – our feast day
  • St. Peter and St. Paul
  • Leaver’s mass for year 6
  • End of school year

The Stations of the Cross

For a week during Lent, our year 3 and 4 children lead us and their families in a moving journey through the stations of the cross. Each day we are presented with a series of stations leading up to Jesus’ death. It is a very thought provoking experience and the children do a fantastic job in portraying such an emotional series of events.
