Autumn term 1

20.10.22

Well done for a fantastic start to Year 6! I hope you all have a wonderful half term.

Please continue to read as much as possible over the half term and review the spellings you have learnt this half term. There is no writing task this half term, as I would like you all to spend some time learning your lines and song lyrics for our Remembrance assembly. You can find the links for the songs (and dance if you are in the performance) in the space below.

Please continue to read daily and review last week's spelling rule. MyMaths tasks have also been set, which are based on fractions and/or long division. For your writing task, you will continue learning about microorganisms. You will do this by researching about Alex Fleming, a microbiologist who discovered penicillin (an antibiotic). You can display your research as a poster or fact file.

7.10.22

Please continue to read daily and review this week's spelling rule. MyMaths tasks have also been set, which are based on the order of operations and word problems. For your writing task, please research an inspirational person for 'Black History Month'. They can be a musician, scientist, artist etc...

Include a photograph of the person you have chosen to write about and include details of their life.

30.9.22

Please continue to read daily and review this week's spelling rule. MyMaths tasks have also been set, which are based on factors, multiples and prime numbers. For your writing task, please research the artwork of Henry Moore. Choose your favourite artwork (can be a painting, sculpture or drawing) made by the artist. In your report include:

  • a picture of the artwork (you can print it off or sketch it yourself)
  • title of artwork and date it was made/completed
  • what medium was used (art materials)?
  • describe the artwork
  • explain why you like it

This can be completed on a word document or hand written.

23.9.22

I hope you all had a wonderful day at either St. Thomas More or St. Bernard's High school.

Please continue to read daily and review last week's spelling rule. MyMaths tasks have also been set, which are based on multiplication and division. For your writing task, please research an animal of your choice (choose something unusual!). In your report include the following:

  • Identify the characteristics of your animal i.e. has fur, scales, lays eggs in water etc...
  • Identify the animal group they belong to i.e. mammal, reptile, bird etc...
  • Describe their habitat
  • Include any interesting facts you have about your chosen animal

16.9.22

Please look at this week's spelling rule and practice the spelling examples at home. Continue to read at home independently, as well as reading to an adult. Complete the mymaths task based on place value. For your written task, research toys that children of the early 1900's played. It should be hand written (lined paper will be provided).
