Come and See RE

Religious Education – Come and See RE

Come and see is a programme of study for the Catholic teaching of Religious Education from Early years up to year 6. The aim of the programme is to explore the religious dimension of the questions about life. Children are given opportunities to make links between their own lives and religious themes while recognising ways they can live like Jesus.

Come and See provides a platform for children to ask questions and wonder about and respond to different religious concepts.  It will help them to explore the beliefs, values and way of the Catholic tradition and where appropriate of other faith traditions. The programme enhances their spiritual awareness through thought provoking ‘Big Questions’ where they are able to decide how they will take their new knowledge from a topic into the wider world.

The Teaching and Learning of Religious Education at St. George’s

Religious Education equates to 10% of the weekly timetable, with lessons being spread across the week. During this time children will engage in a range of activities based on their current theme. Each lesson begins and ends with prayer and reflection time to ensure their learning has been embedded and children can take something away with them. At St George’s we encourage cross curricular links within RE lessons, particularly with the exploration of art. Therefore children are able to discuss famous religious art as well as creating their own portrayal of a piece of scripture or a key message. Within the lessons children are able to engage with their own beliefs as well as teaching them about self-worth by belonging to a caring community whilst making them aware of the demands of a religious commitment to everyday life.
