Early Years Foundation Stage Profile

The Reception Baseline Assessment (RBA) is a statutory assessment. It provides a snapshot of where pupils are when they arrive at school. It will provide a starting point to measure the progress schools make with their pupils between reception and the end of primary school.

The Early Learning Goals (ELGs) are the goals or targets for children to achieve at the end of their reception year. They will be working towards these goals throughout the EYFS.

At the end of the reception year, practitioners are required to make a ‘best fit’ judgement for each child, relating to each Early Learning Goal. For each ELG, practitioners must judge whether a child is meeting the level of development expected at the end of the Reception year. This summary of attainment is called The Early Years Foundation Stage Profile (EYFSP).
