In Year 1, we have been investigating senses in our science and for homework the children created a piece of work so that we could investigate touch as part of our lesson.  We were so impressed that Mrs Howell and year 4 came in to have a look and ask the children questions too.
  • Anti-Bullying Week

    Sat 18 Nov 2017
This week, all classes have been investigating the Anti-Bullying Week theme of 'All Different, All Equal'. Our assemblies during the week focused on this theme, the whole school saw that we are all part of God's family, then  EYFS and KS1 looked at the book 'It's Okay to be Different' by Todd Parr.  Our KS2 children watched ‘In a Heartbeat’, a short global award winning film about how one child can make a big difference in the lives of many and then worked together to record their thoughts and feelings, what examples of bullying were shown and how these can be overcome. Across the week Year 2 made a wonderful Friendship Web and Year 6 discussed the importance of difference and diversity in the people around us. In Year 5 they binned the characteristics of bullying and thought about simple ways to make other people feel special. At the end of the week children from each class shared their experiences in our Celebration Assembly.

Yesterday, seven boys & nine girls from Years 5 & 6 represented St George’s at this year’s Deanery tournament. Playing their first matches together as a team, our children played brilliantly and both teams displayed great sportsmanship. The girls showed determination and visible improvement as the afternoon went on. The boys won two, drew four and lost just one game, finishing third out of eight schools and receiving bronze medals for their efforts. Well done, we are very proud of you all!
  • Poppies

Yesterday, Year 2 had a great morning visiting the Southend Schools Festival of Remembrance. Earlier in the term each child made a clay poppy for the exhibition along with many other children from several schools. The children visited the Cenotaph where they listened to the Last Post being played. They were then treated to a cup of hot chocolate! The poppies will be on display over the weekend as a focus for the Remembrance services.
